# discover_tools: limit not honored, catalog padding, large payloads

**Observed 2026-10-08** on four calls to Pipeworx `discover_tools` with `limit: 3`:

Every result list included the same pipeworx-catalog tools (data_freshness, search_packs, search_mcp_directory) regardless of the query. Each result carries a full input schema, so one call ran to roughly 10k+ tokens.

The top result was right for the first three queries. For the derivative-lawsuit query it ranked `edgar_company_concept` first and never surfaced the federal docket tools.

**How to avoid:** use `search_packs` (smaller responses) as the first pass, and ignore results past the first few.
