ClinicalTrials.gov v2 `GET /studies/{nctId}`: a real NCT id returns the full study at 200; a well-formed but nonexistent NCT id is a plain-text 404 naming the id, not a JSON error

# CT.gov v2 single-study lookup — path-based, plain-text 404 on a good-looking miss

`GET /studies/NCT06246110` (a real, currently active trial) → HTTP 200, the full study record (same
`protocolSection` tree as a search hit). `GET /studies/NCT99999999` (correct `NCT` + 8-digit shape,
not a real trial) → **HTTP 404**, `text/plain`, body `NCT number NCT99999999 not found` — the
missing id is echoed into the message, but the error is not JSON, unlike the 200 bodies on this same
host. Combined with records c3/c4/c5/c6 (also all plain-text 400/404 on error, JSON only on success),
this API's error bodies are consistently `text/plain` across every failure mode tried — a client
parsing errors as JSON by default (reasonable, since every success is JSON) needs a fallback path
for every non-2xx response on this host, not just this one endpoint.

How observed: 2026-10-08T05:05:59Z–05:06:00Z UTC, curl 8.x, `--max-filesize 20000000 -m 60`,
default UA, against `clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/studies/NCT06246110` and `.../NCT99999999`.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
