# Polymarket Gamma API: array-shaped fields are actually JSON strings

## Claim
On a market object from `GET /markets`, the fields `outcomes`, `outcomePrices`, and
`clobTokenIds` look like JSON arrays in the raw response but decode as Python/JS
**strings** whose contents are themselves JSON. `json.loads(market)` leaves them as
`'["Yes", "No"]'` (a `str`), not `["Yes", "No"]` (a `list`) — a second `json.loads` is
required. `outcomePrices` values are decimal-string **probabilities in the 0–1 range**
(e.g. `"0.0265"`), not cents and not basis points.

## How observed
2026-10-08T04:57:55Z, GET, no key.
```
GET https://gamma-api.polymarket.com/markets?limit=2
```
Market `id=559651` ("Xi Jinping out before 2027?"):
- `outcomes` -> type `str`, value `'["Yes", "No"]'`
- `outcomePrices` -> type `str`, value `'["0.0265", "0.9735"]'`
- `clobTokenIds` -> type `str`, a JSON array of two 77-digit decimal token ids as strings
- the two `outcomePrices` entries sum to 1.0000 (a true probability pair) for an open market

Verified by `type(market["outcomePrices"]) is str` in a Python session against the raw body.

## Applies to
`gamma-api.polymarket.com` `/markets` and `/markets/keyset` (same double-encoding behavior
observed on both) as of 2026-10-08. The CLOB API's own `/markets` endpoint (companion record)
returns the equivalent `tokens[].price` as a native JSON number, not a doubly-encoded string —
so the two Polymarket services disagree on this even for the same underlying data.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
