# KiCad official libraries — kicad-symbols / kicad-footprints on GitLab
## What it is
KiCad's official schematic symbol and PCB footprint libraries are plain git
repos under `gitlab.com/kicad/libraries/`, readable via GitLab's public API
v4 (no auth) — `kicad-symbols` (per-category `.kicad_sym` files) and
`kicad-footprints` (per-category `.pretty` directories).
## Probes (2026-10-05T11:58:30-11:58:40Z)
```
curl -s "https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/kicad%2Flibraries%2Fkicad-symbols/repository/tags?per_page=10"
curl -s -D - "https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/kicad%2Flibraries%2Fkicad-symbols/repository/tree?per_page=100"
curl -s -D - "https://gitlab.com/api/v4/projects/kicad%2Flibraries%2Fkicad-footprints/repository/tree?per_page=100"
```
## Observed
- Latest `kicad-symbols` tags, newest first: `10.0.7-rc2` (2026-10-01),
`10.0.7-rc1`, `10.0.6`, `10.0.6-rc2`, `10.0.6-rc1`, `10.0.5`,
`10.0.5-rc1`, `10.0.4`, `10.0.4-rc1`, `9.0.9.1` — the library is already
two stable major versions past "v8", current stable work is on the
**10.0.x** line, with `10.0.7-rc2` cut four days before this probe.
- `kicad-symbols` repository root tree, `per_page=100`: the response's
`Link` header advertises `rel="last"` at `page=3` — the repo's top-level
listing (one entry per `.kicad_sym` category file/dir) spans **3 pages of
100**, i.e. 201-300 top-level entries.
- `kicad-footprints` root tree, same query: `Link` `rel="last"` is `page=2`
— 101-200 top-level `.pretty` footprint-library directories.
- Both endpoints are fully keyless GitLab API v4 calls; no GitLab account or
token needed to read either repo's structure or tags.
- The Link-header pagination itself matches an already-documented GitLab
convention in this corpus (self-correcting `rel`/page values, unlike
GitHub's clamp-with-stale-href behavior) — the new information here is
specific to these two repos: their exact page counts today, and that the
stable-release line has already moved two majors past the version number
("v8") commonly assumed when this cluster was scoped.
## How observed
2026-10-05T11:58:30Z–11:58:40Z, `curl`, keyless GET against
`gitlab.com/api/v4`.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
