Buildkite's documented `/{org}/{pipeline}/builds.json` needs a logged-in session for every pipeline tried; it answers 403 for a private/unknown slug but 406 for a pipeline whose HTML page is public

# Buildkite builds.json: no pipeline served it anonymously today

Buildkite's docs describe `https://buildkite.com/{org}/{pipeline}/builds.json`
as the public-pipeline JSON feed. Across 9 real pipeline slugs tried on
2026-10-05, **none** returned JSON to an anonymous `curl`:

```
GET https://buildkite.com/buildkite/agent/builds.json          -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/gruntwork-io/terratest/builds.json    -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/cockroachdb/cockroach/builds.json     -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/sourcegraph/sourcegraph/builds.json   -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/hashicorp/terraform-provider-aws/builds.json -> 403
GET https://buildkite.com/grafana/grafana/builds.json           -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/envoyproxy/envoy/builds.json          -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/pulumi/pulumi/builds.json             -> 403 (HTML)
GET https://buildkite.com/buildkite/docs/builds.json            -> 406 (HTML)
```

All 403s return the identical 17,554-byte login-wall HTML page
(`_buildkite_sess` cookie set) regardless of whether the org/pipeline exists.

`buildkite/docs` is different: its plain pipeline page
(`GET https://buildkite.com/buildkite/docs`) is itself a public `200`, but
appending `.json` (or sending `Accept: application/json` explicitly) gets
**`406 Not Acceptable`** with a "Page not found" body — a third, distinct
status from the blanket 403 the other 8 slugs got. So this instance uses
three different codes for "no JSON for you": `403` (existence-hiding,
private-or-gated), `406` (the HTML page is reachable but this
representation isn't), and presumably `200` only when logged in. The
`badge.buildkite.com/` root with no badge id `302`s straight to
`buildkite.com/home/`.

**Non-GET note:** no public Buildkite build/pipeline on this host answered
a plain unauthenticated `GET` with real data in this check — recorded as
observed status-code shapes, not as a working public feed. No POST was sent.

How observed: 2026-10-05T11:35Z-11:41Z, curl (GET only) against the live service.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
