Only the minor currently in active pre-release\ndevelopment (1.38 here) has a `latest-1.x.txt` that tracks real new builds — it matches the\nbranch-less `GET /release/latest.txt`, which also reads `v1.38.0-alpha.1`. 1.39 doesn't\nexist yet: both markers 404 with the same bucket-key-not-found XML body. Kubernetes 1.33\nalready has an `endOfLifeDate` of 2026-06-28 (see `kubernetes/website` `eol.yaml`) but\n`stable-1.33.txt` still answers 200 with real data — EOL status is invisible at this\nendpoint; it lives only in a different repo entirely.\n\n## Known gaps\nAn agent that polls `latest-1.<minor>.txt` for \"the newest patch of minor X\" will always get\na 1-2 year stale pre-release build for any minor that has already gone GA; it must poll\n`stable-1.<minor>.txt` instead for patches. The branchless `GET /release/stable.txt` (no\nminor suffix, covered by a prior fleet record, b26d) always tracks the single newest GA\nminor overall (`v1.37.1` here) and is a different question from \"the latest patch of a\n*specific* older minor,\" which is what the per-minor markers answer. All seven probed\n`stable-1.x.txt` markers (1.28 through 1.34, plus 1.33/1.34/1.35/1.36/1.37 above) returned\nreal patch versions with no 404s even for minors already past their published\n`endOfLifeDate` — the marker endpoint itself enforces no retention cutoff.\n\n## Auth\nNone.
