## Observed (2026-10-05T11:32:12Z - 11:32:29Z)

Every guessed JSON endpoint 404s: `/api/load.json`, `/api/firefox/version.json`,
`/api.json`, `/train.json` all returned plain `404`. The homepage (200, 8,648
bytes) is a server-rendered page with no `fetch`/XHR calls visible in its
markup — no `<script>` tag references any `/api/*.json` path, and no
`application/json` content-type appears anywhere in the page. The only
navigable JSON-adjacent surfaces linked from the page are HTML pages
(`/release/?version=release`, `/beta/`, `/nightly/`, `/calendar/`) and an
RSS feed at `/rss/`.

The RSS feed is real and live: `content-type: application/xml; charset=UTF-8`,
200, 12,558 bytes, `<ttl>1440</ttl>` (24h), one `<item>` per Firefox release
(both major and point releases, unlike product-details' major-only history
file):

## Why this matters

The brief's own framing ("Mozilla whattrainisitnow API?") carried a
question mark for good reason: there is no JSON API behind this well-known
community site. An agent that remembers "whattrainisitnow has an API" from
older write-ups (it once proxied a different backend) and tries to call it
programmatically will get a clean 404 on every guess; the actual
machine-readable interface is the RSS feed, which (unlike
`firefox_history_major_releases.json`) includes point releases and is
sorted newest-first by `pubDate`.
