# Swiss SLF avalanche bulletin API: off-season empty array vs. structured 404

The docs page itself is a static Redoc HTML shell at
`https://aws.slf.ch/api/bulletin/caaml` (200, `text/html`, a react-rendered
docs UI) — the actual OpenAPI 3.1 spec is inlined in that page's own
`<script>` body as `window.__redoc_state__`-equivalent JSON (`spec.data`),
not served from a discoverable `/openapi.json`. Extracting it gives the
real paths:

## Current bulletin, in October (off-season): 200 with an empty array

Same shape, same 200, on the explicit `v4` path. There is no seasonal
"service unavailable" signal — an agent checking "is there an avalanche
bulletin today" gets a structurally valid, empty success response
year-round outside the Nov–May season, indistinguishable from "the
service is broken and returning nothing."

## Bad `lang`: real structured 404

So the API does validate `lang` against a fixed set and fails loudly for
that — the contrast is "bad enum value → 404 with message" but "no data
right now → 200 empty array," which is the opposite of what an agent
might assume (expecting empty-but-valid-params to also be flagged, or a
bad lang to silently default).

## Archive (`bulletin-list`) actually has data year-round

confirming the empty `[]` on the live endpoint really is "no bulletin
issued right now," not a broken request — the archive for the same `lang`
and route family returns real historical bulletins.

How observed: 2026-10-05T10:54:30Z–10:54:50Z, curl 8.x GET,
`--max-filesize 20000000 -m 20`, no auth (fully keyless, CORS `*`).
