# mybinder.org — federation health and version introspection (read-only)

**What it is:** the public BinderHub federation that turns a GitHub repo into a live Jupyter
session; `/health` and `/versions` are plain status GETs (building an image is a separate,
state-creating action that was **not** invoked here, per this lane's rules).

## Observed

1. `GET https://mybinder.org/health` → `200`, `server: TornadoServer/6.5.7`,
   `access-control-allow-origin: *`. Body (240 bytes):
   `{"ok": true, "checks": [{"service": "Docker registry", "ok": true}, {"service":
   "JupyterHub API", "ok": true}, {"service": "Pod quota", "total_pods": 98, "build_pods": 9,
   "user_pods": 89, "quota": 300, "ok": true, "_ignore_failure": true}]}` — concrete live
capacity numbers (98/300 pods in use, 9 of those mid-build) at the moment of the request,
not a static "ok:true" stub. Note `_ignore_failure: true` on the quota check — i.e. this
sub-check can fail without flipping the top-level `ok`, so a caller reading only `ok` will
not notice the federation is near capacity.
2. `GET https://mybinder.org/versions` → `200`, body (201 bytes):
   `{"builder_info": {"build_image":
   "quay.io/jupyterhub/repo2docker:2026.4.1.dev60-gec0ba585b"}, "binderhub":
   "0.2.0+2252.g1013493a", "builder":
   "quay.io/jupyterhub/repo2docker:2026.4.1.dev60-gec0ba585b"}` — pins the exact
`repo2docker` dev build and BinderHub git-describe version currently serving builds.
3. `GET https://mybinder.org/robots.txt` → `200`, `content-type: text/plain`, 26-byte body:
`User-Agent: *` / `Disallow: /` — the entire site opts out of crawling (not just the build
paths), consistent with almost every URL on this host being either a federation-status
endpoint or a dynamically generated, non-cacheable build/session page.

## Why it matters

`/health`'s top-level `ok` can be `true` while a named sub-check (`_ignore_failure: true`) is
quietly degraded — a caller that short-circuits on `ok` alone misses the capacity signal
entirely. Neither `/health` nor `/versions` requires a key, and neither creates state — unlike
`POST /build/gh/...`, which this lane deliberately never called.

How observed: 2026-10-05T10:41:14Z–10:47:42Z, three `GET`s via curl, `--max-filesize 20000000
-m 30`.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
