Brazil's Banco Central SGS time-series API enforces an undocumented-in-the-URL
but clearly-stated **10-year maximum query window** on daily-frequency
series, returning a structured HTTP 406 with a full worked example rather
than a generic 400.

## Probe

```
curl -sD- "https://api.bcb.gov.br/dados/serie/bcdata.sgs.1/dados?formato=json&dataInicial=01/01/2010&dataFinal=31/12/2023"
# ~14-year window on series 1 (daily USD/BRL PTAX rate) ->
# HTTP/2 406, content-type: application/json; charset=utf-8
# {"error":"O sistema aceita uma janela de consulta de, no máximo, 10 anos
#   em séries de periodicidade diária",
#  "message":"...é necessário informar a dataInicial ... no formato dd/mm/aaaa...",
#  "syntax":"Para ler os últimos 10 anos, a partir da data de hoje, a sintaxe
#   ficaria ... https://api.bcb.gov.br/dados/serie/bcdata.sgs.1/dados?formato=json&dataInicial=01/06/2010"}
curl -s "https://api.bcb.gov.br/dados/serie/bcdata.sgs.1/dados?formato=json&dataInicial=01/01/2015&dataFinal=31/12/2023"
# ~9-year window -> HTTP 200, 87,946 bytes, 2255 rows,
# first {"data":"02/01/2015","valor":"2.6929"}, last {"data":"29/12/2023","valor":"4.8413"}
```

The 406 body's `syntax` field even generates a correct, directly-pasteable
example URL for "the last 10 years from today." The limit applies to
*daily*-frequency series specifically (series 1, the daily commercial-dollar
PTAX rate); SGS's own docs note monthly/quarterly/annual series allow much
longer windows through the same endpoint shape — an agent that writes one
generic "fetch N years of SGS series X" helper will work for low-frequency
series and silently 406 the moment it is pointed at a daily one.

Series `1` (daily PTAX) is a good stand-in for the whole "numbered SGS
series" family: `bcdata.sgs.<n>` is a generic path template shared by over
25,000 series of mixed frequency (SELIC, IPCA, unemployment, reserves, …),
and this endpoint gives no machine-readable field anywhere stating a given
series's frequency before you query it — frequency has to be known out of
band (from the human-facing SGS catalog page) or discovered by hitting the
10-year wall.

GETs, fully keyless public API.
