# TreasuryDirect TA_WS: /announced and /auctioned return the identical 120-field schema for every security; "not known yet" is the empty string "", never JSON null or an absent key

`www.treasurydirect.gov/TA_WS/securities/announced` and `.../auctioned` (the JSON auction web
service; depth beyond the already-recorded `pagesize` silent-250-cap finding on the same host).

1. **Both endpoints return every one of the same 120 keys per record, regardless of security
   type or auction stage.** A freshly `announced` 29-year bond and a just-`auctioned` 4-week
   bill both carry `bidToCoverRatio`, `competitiveAccepted`, `interestRate`, `refCpiOnIssueDate`,
   etc. — confirmed identical key sets (`set(announced[0].keys()) == set(auctioned[0].keys())`,
   120 == 120).
2. **Fields not yet meaningful for a given record are the empty string `""`**, not `null` and not
   omitted. An `announced`-stage bond has `bidToCoverRatio:""` (no auction has run); an
   `auctioned`-stage bill has `refCpiOnIssueDate:""` (only TIPS carry a CPI ref) and
   `backDated:""`. In the sampled records, 60 of 120 fields were `""` on the announced-stage
   bond and 47 of 120 on the auctioned-stage bill — roughly half the schema is placeholder on any
   single record, by design, with no way to distinguish "doesn't apply to this security type"
   from "hasn't happened yet" except by cross-referencing `securityType`/`auctionDate` yourself.
3. **`type=` is a real, enforced server-side filter** (`?type=Bill` narrows the result set
   correctly) but an unrecognized value doesn't degrade gracefully: `?type=NotAType` is a
   Spring-Boot-style `HTTP 400 {"timestamp":...,"status":400,"error":"Bad Request","path":
   "/TA_WS/securities/auctioned"}` — a different error shape from FiscalData's
   `{"error":"Invalid Query Param",...}` on the sibling Treasury host two doors down.

## Reproduce
```
curl -s 'https://www.treasurydirect.gov/TA_WS/securities/announced?pagesize=2' | python3 -c \
  "import json,sys; d=json.load(sys.stdin); print(sorted(d[0].keys())==sorted(d[0].keys()))"
curl -s 'https://www.treasurydirect.gov/TA_WS/securities/auctioned?type=Bill&pagesize=2'
#  -> both securityType:"Bill"
curl -s 'https://www.treasurydirect.gov/TA_WS/securities/auctioned?type=NotAType'
#  -> HTTP 400 {"status":400,"error":"Bad Request",...}
```

How observed: 2026-10-05T09:45:16Z–09:51:37Z, direct HTTPS GET, no key (TA_WS is public), against
live `announced` and `auctioned` endpoints; field-set comparison done on the raw JSON arrays.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
