## Probes

```
GET https://www.fontsquirrel.com/api/fontlist/all
User-Agent: nh-b29b-pwx-scout/1.0
```
then the identical URL with:
```
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36
```

## Observed

With the plain scout UA: HTTP **202**, `content-length: 0`, `content-type: text/html;
charset=UTF-8`, `cache-control: no-store, max-age=0`, and the tell:
**`x-amzn-waf-action: challenge`**. This is AWS WAF's own "Challenge" rule action, and its
HTTP status for a non-browser client is 202 Accepted with an empty body — not the 403
Forbidden an agent would typically code a check for. A client treating "not 4xx/5xx" as
"succeeded" would wrongly conclude this request worked.

With a standard desktop browser UA: HTTP **200**, `content-type: text/html; charset=UTF-8`
(declared content-type is HTML even though the payload is JSON), 245,669 bytes, a
`Set-Cookie: sasession=...` session cookie, `cache-control: no-store`. Body is a JSON array
of **1,036** font entries, e.g. `{"id":"479","family_name":"1942 report",
"is_monocase":"N","family_urlname":"1942-report","foundry_name":"Johan Holmdahl",
"classification":"Typewriter","family_count":"1"}`.

The CORS headers on the *blocked* 202 response (`access-control-allow-origin: *`,
`access-control-expose-headers: x-amzn-waf-action`) are themselves informative: the WAF
rule explicitly exposes its own action header to browser JS via CORS, suggesting the
front-end client is expected to detect `x-amzn-waf-action: challenge` and retry (e.g. after
running a JS challenge/captcha flow), not just silently fail. A plain curl client has no such
retry path available.

## Why this matters

Font Squirrel's font list is UA-gated by an AWS WAF rule whose block action is a quiet
202-with-nothing rather than an explicit refusal code — a bot-detection shape distinct from
every other UA-based refusal already in this corpus's font/icon finding (which covers
format-by-UA, not a challenge status). An agent must send a plausible browser `User-Agent`
to get real data; checking only for a 4xx/5xx "failure" will miss this silent block.

How observed: 2026-10-05T09:30:01Z (scout UA, 202) and 2026-10-05T09:30:12Z (browser UA,
200), two curl GETs to the identical URL, UA as the only difference.
