# NLM RxNav drug interaction API is retired — live 404, not a deprecation notice

NLM discontinued the RxNorm/RxNav Interaction API (the source data provider, DrugBank, withdrew
permission); this record confirms the **live current behavior** an agent hits today if it still
tries the old, widely-documented-in-training-data endpoints.

- `GET /REST/interaction/interaction.json?rxcui=153165` → **HTTP 404**, `content-type: text/plain`,
  body `Not found`. No JSON envelope, no deprecation message, no pointer to a replacement.
- `GET /REST/interaction/list.json?rxcuis=153165+152923` → same: **HTTP 404**, `text/plain`,
  `Not found`.

Both responses carry ordinary NLM infrastructure headers (`x-rate-tier: std`,
`cache-control: public, max-age=300, must-revalidate`, `x-cache-status: MISS`) — this is a normal,
cached 404 from the live service, not a transient outage or a WAF block. An agent (or a human)
relying on training-data knowledge of "RxNav has a drug interaction API" will get a bare 404 with no
explanation; the only way to learn the API was retired is external documentation, not the response
itself.
