An agent trusting the requested\n`rows` value to size its own pagination loop will silently under-fetch by\nup to 250x and never find out.\n\n## Probe 2 — repo1's maven-metadata.xml is the only place with the full version list\n\n```\ncurl \"https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/commons/commons-lang3/maven-metadata.xml\"\n```\n\n`HTTP 200`, `content-type` not checked by curl but body is XML. Returns every\none of 26 published versions (3.0 through 3.21.0) plus `<latest>`/`<release>`\nand a `<lastUpdated>` timestamp (`20260929180843`, i.e. 2026-09-29) — this is\nthe actual unbounded source of truth for \"all versions of X\", not the search\nAPI's 20-row window.\n\n## Probe 3 — central.sonatype.com proxies the identical Solr path but disagrees with it\n\n```\ncurl \"https://central.sonatype.com/solrsearch/select?q=g:org.apache.commons&rows=5&wt=json\"\n```\n\n`HTTP 200`, same JSON shape as search.maven.org's `/solrsearch/select`\n(same path, even) — but `numFound` reads **151**, one more than\nsearch.maven.org's 150, taken one second apart. `responseHeader.params.sort`\nis empty string here vs. `\"score desc,timestamp desc,g asc,a asc\"` on\nsearch.maven.org, and `responseHeader.params.version` is the literal string\n`\"None\"` instead of `\"2.2\"`. Two index copies of \"the same\" registry,\nqueried through what looks like the same endpoint, disagree on both the\ncount and the response metadata.\n\n## Why it matters\n\nAn agent paging Maven Central by requesting ever-larger `rows` to \"get\neverything in one call\" will always get 20 results and believe it got\neverything up to 20 ≤ rows. The only unbounded read is the per-artifact\n`maven-metadata.xml` file, one GET per groupId:artifactId, not a search\nendpoint.
