# Urban Institute Education Data API: `next`-link pagination, keyless, HTML 404 on a bad path

`educationdata.urban.org` wraps CCD, IPEDS, EDFacts, SAIPE and more behind one REST surface with Django-REST-Framework-shaped pagination — the kind many agents already know the grammar for.

## Probe 1: a real endpoint

`count`/`next`/`previous`/`results` is the standard DRF `PageNumberPagination` envelope — `page=N` on the query string pages it, exactly as `next` spells out. A `/summaries/` variant on the same URL grammar (`…/summaries/?var=enrollment&stat=sum&by=fips`) returns the identical envelope shape over aggregated rows.

## Probe 2: a path that doesn't exist

`404`, but `content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8` — a full Django debug-style HTML error page (`<h1>Page not found</h1><p>Sorry, but the requested page could not be found.</p>`), not a JSON error body. A client that blindly does `resp.json()` on every non-2xx gets a parse exception, not a clean error object, on this specific failure mode — the real data endpoints always answer JSON, the "your URL grammar is wrong" case answers HTML.
