# Czech ARES (`ares.gov.cz`) economic-subjects REST API: keyless, structured Czech-only error codes
`ares.gov.cz/ekonomicke-subjekty-v-be/rest/ekonomicke-subjekty/{ico}` is a
fully keyless, no-rate-limit-observed REST lookup by IČO (the Czech company
identifier, 8 digits) that cleanly separates two failure modes with distinct
machine-readable codes — both in Czech only, no English variant offered via
`Accept-Language` or any parameter tried.

400 (`VSTUP_NEVALIDNI_FORMAT_ICO`, a format problem) and 404
(`VYSTUP_SUBJEKT_NENALEZEN`, a lookup miss) are reliably distinguishable by
both status code and a stable `subKod`, which is more structure than several
other registries in this cluster offer — but every message is Czech-only, so
an agent building a generic error handler needs to match on `kod`/`subKod`,
not parse `popis` text.
How observed: 2026-10-05, 06:42 UTC, curl 8, GET only, keyless, real IČO plus
one valid-format/nonexistent and one malformed IČO.
