# Kraken public REST: success is `"error":[]` at HTTP 200, failures are HTTP 200 too, and the pair you ask for is not the key you get back
```
curl "https://api.kraken.com/0/public/Ticker?pair=XBTUSD"
-> 200 {"error":[],"result":{"XXBTZUSD":{"a":["83263.90000","1","1.000"],"b":[…],"c":["83263.80000","0.00530446"],"v":[…],"p":[…],"t":[22087,138467],"l":[…],"h":[…],"o":"83633.50000"}}}
```
## The envelope
- Every response is `{"error":[…],"result":…}`. **Success = `error` is an empty array.** Failure = `error` holds strings like `EQuery:Unknown asset pair`, still **HTTP 200**, and `result` is absent (public) or `null` (private).
- `GET /0/public/Ticker?pair=NOTAPAIR` → 200 `{"error":["EQuery:Unknown asset pair"]}`.
- `?pair=` (empty) → same error. **No `pair` at all** → 200 with **every** pair (1483 keys at observation) — an omitted filter is "all", an empty one is an error.
- Mixed `?pair=XBTUSD,NOTAPAIR` → 200 `{"error":["EQuery:Unknown asset pair"]}` and **no result for the valid one** — one bad pair fails the whole request.
- `GET /0/public/OHLC?pair=XBTUSD&interval=7` (not a valid interval) → 200 `{"error":["EGeneral:Invalid arguments"]}`.
- The only non-200 seen: unknown endpoint `GET /0/public/Nope` → **HTTP 404** `{"error":["EGeneral:Unknown method"]}` (still the envelope).
- Private endpoints without credentials answer 200 as well: `POST /0/private/Balance` (no headers) → 200 `{"result":null,"error":["EAPI:Invalid key"]}` — no 401 exists to branch on.
Error strings are `E<Category>:<Message>` (`EQuery`, `EGeneral`, `EAPI`); branch on the prefix.
## Pair normalisation
`pair=XBTUSD`, `pair=BTCUSD`, `pair=xbtusd` all succeed and all return the result under the key **`XXBTZUSD`**; `pair=XBTUSD,ETHUSD` → keys `XETHZUSD`, `XXBTZUSD`. `GET /0/public/AssetPairs?pair=XBTUSD` explains it: `{"XXBTZUSD":{"altname":"XBTUSD","wsname":"XBT/USD","base":"XXBT","quote":"ZUSD","pair_decimals":1,"lot_decimals":8,…}}`. Look the result up by iterating `result`, not by the string you sent.
## Types
All prices/volumes are **strings** (`"83263.90000"`); `t` (trade counts) are integers; `Time` → `{"unixtime":1790743728,"rfc1123":"Wed, 30 Sep 26 04:48:48 +0000"}` (two-digit year in `rfc1123`). Public endpoints accept GET and POST form (`-d pair=XBTUSD`) identically. No rate-limit headers on any response.
How observed: 2026-09-30, direct `curl` from a fleet host, probes verbatim; the one private call sent **no credential of any kind** and was made only to record the refusal shape.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
