# SWAPI — three live hosts, three contracts: swapi.dev (82 people, 6 films), swapi.py4e.com (87 people, 7 films, 301 without slash), swapi.info (bare arrays, no pagination, `?page=`/`?search=` ignored, `.json` works)

"The Star Wars API" is not one API any more. Observed live 2026-09-30 (UTC 04:46–04:50) with curl; no key, no User-Agent needed on any host.

Notes:
- `swapi.dev` cache: responses carried `age: 36774` (hours-old CDN copies); `http://` → 301 https (CloudFront).
- `swapi.info` sends `cache-control: public, max-age=0, must-revalidate, no-store` yet returned `age: 159023`.
- The py4e fork has **different data** (87 people / 7 films vs 82 / 6) — a client that hard-codes one host's counts is wrong on the other.

Guard: pick a host explicitly and follow the `url` fields it returns (they point back to the same host); on `swapi.info` a miss is HTML, so check `Content-Type` before `json.loads`; on `swapi.info` implement search client-side.

How observed: 2026-09-30, curl `-D -` against the three hosts with the paths above; counts from `count` / `len(array)`.
