# SEC `data.sec.gov` XBRL frames: the period suffix must match the concept type, and every miss is the same S3 `NoSuchKey` XML 404
`GET https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/frames/<taxonomy>/<tag>/<unit>/<period>.json` — one value per filer for one concept in one period, across all filers. Same host rules as `companyfacts`: no key, a declared `User-Agent` with contact is mandatory (403 `text/html` without), CIK paths are `CIK` + 10-digit zero-padded.
## Period grammar — observed 2026-09-30
- `us-gaap/Assets/USD/CY2024Q1I.json` → **200**, `{taxonomy, tag, ccp: "CY2024Q1I", uom: "USD", label, description, pts: 5849, data: [{accn, cik: 1750, entityName, loc: "US-IL", end: "2024-02-29", val: 2021800000}, ...]}`. Note `cik` in the body is an **integer** (1750), not the padded string used in paths.
- `us-gaap/Assets/USD/CY2024Q1.json` (instant concept, no `I`) → **404**.
- `us-gaap/Revenues/USD/CY2024.json` (duration concept, no `I`) → **200**, `pts: 2503`, rows carry `start` and `end` (`"2024-01-01"` … `"2024-12-31"`).
- `us-gaap/Revenues/USD/CY2024I.json` (duration concept with `I`) → **404**.
So: balance-sheet (instant) concepts take `CY####Q#I` / `CY####I`; income/cash-flow (duration) concepts take `CY####` / `CY####Q#`. The wrong suffix is not "empty", it is "not found".
## Unit spelling
- Path `us-gaap/EarningsPerShareBasic/USD-per-shares/CY2024.json` → 200 with body `uom: "USD/shares"`. The path spells `/` as `-per-`; the body returns the XBRL form.
- Path `.../Assets/usd/CY2024Q1I.json` (lowercase unit) → **404**. Case-sensitive.
## The 404 shape — observed 2026-09-30
Every miss — wrong period suffix, unknown tag (`NotATag`), lowercase unit, **unpadded CIK** (`companyfacts/CIK16918.json`, `submissions/CIK16918.json`), and a well-formed but nonexistent CIK (`companyfacts/CIK0009999999.json`) — returns the identical **HTTP 404 `application/xml`**:
```
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Error><Code>NoSuchKey</Code><Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message><Key>api/xbrl/frames/us-gaap/Assets/USD/CY2024Q1.json</Key><RequestId>...</RequestId><HostId>...</HostId></Error>
```
This is an object-store (S3-style) listing miss, not an API error: there is no JSON, no hint about *which* segment was wrong, and "does not exist" cannot distinguish a typo from a company with no XBRL. The only useful field is `<Key>` — it echoes the path you asked for, so you can check padding/case/suffix against it.
## Adjacent, same host (observed 2026-09-30)
`GET /submissions/CIK0000016918.json` → 200 with entity metadata (`cik`, `tickers[]`, `exchanges[]`, `ein`, `lei`, `fiscalYearEnd`, `formerNames[]`) and `filings.recent` as **column-oriented parallel arrays** (`accessionNumber[]`, `filingDate[]`, `form[]`, `primaryDocument[]`, `isXBRL[]`, … — 16 arrays, 1003 entries each here); older filings are not in the body but named in `filings.files[]` (`{name: "CIK0000016918-submissions-001.json", filingCount: 1457, filingFrom: "1994-01-13", filingTo: "2018-03-27"}`), fetched from the same `/submissions/` prefix. Index across the arrays by position; there is no per-filing object.
## Reproduce
```
UA='Your Name contact@example.com'
curl -s -A "$UA" -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code} %{content_type}\n' https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/frames/us-gaap/Assets/USD/CY2024Q1I.json # 200 application/json
curl -s -A "$UA" -w '\n%{http_code} %{content_type}\n' https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/frames/us-gaap/Assets/USD/CY2024Q1.json # NoSuchKey XML, 404 application/xml
curl -s -A "$UA" -w '\n%{http_code}\n' https://data.sec.gov/api/xbrl/companyfacts/CIK16918.json # same NoSuchKey XML, 404
```
How observed: 2026-09-30, direct `curl` (User-Agent with contact) against `data.sec.gov` with the exact paths above; status, content-type and bodies captured; JSON bodies parsed for `ccp`, `uom`, `pts`, first `data[]` row, and the `submissions` key layout.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
