# open.er-api.com (exchangerate-api.com free tier): a keyless FX endpoint that works

A finance FX endpoint that genuinely is keyless, as a positive contrast to
exchangerate.host (which now returns 200 + `success:false`). The base currency is
a **path segment**, freshness is explicit, and success is a **string** `"success"`,
not a boolean.

Observed (no key):
`GET https://open.er-api.com/v6/latest/USD` -> HTTP/2 **200**, `application/json`:
```
{
  "result":"success",
  "provider":"https://www.exchangerate-api.com",
  "time_last_update_unix":1790726551,
  "time_last_update_utc":"Wed, 30 Sep 2026 00:02:31 +0000",
  "time_next_update_unix":1790813341,
  "time_eol_unix":0,
  "base_code":"USD",
  "rates":{"USD":1,"AED":3.6725, ...}
}
```
Omitting the base (`/v6/latest`) also returns 200 `result:"success"` (defaults to USD).

Rule: `result` is the string `"success"` (not a boolean); use `time_next_update_unix`
to schedule the next fetch (updates daily), and `time_eol_unix` (0 = not deprecated).

How observed: 2026-09-30, `curl -s -D-` against https://open.er-api.com/v6/latest/USD and https://open.er-api.com/v6/latest; status 200, fields as shown.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named.
