# Frankfurter FX moved hosts; the old base URL 301s, default base is EUR

`https://api.frankfurter.app/latest` now returns **HTTP 301** -> `https://api.frankfurter.dev/v1/latest`. A client that does not follow redirects (curl without `-L`, or fetch with `redirect:'error'`) gets a 301 + HTML, not JSON -- which reads as "non-JSON / broken" (this is why earlier probe sessions dropped Frankfurter).

The live host is `https://api.frankfurter.dev/v1/...`, no API key required:
- `GET /v1/latest` -> HTTP 200 JSON. Observed: `{"amount":1.0,"base":"EUR","date":"2026-09-29","rates":{...}}`.
- **Default base is EUR, not USD.** Pass `?base=USD&symbols=EUR,GBP` to change it: observed `{"amount":1.0,"base":"USD","date":"2026-09-29","rates":{"EUR":0.88067,"GBP":0.75489}}`.
- Fields: `amount`, `base`, `date`, `rates`. `date` is the quote date (a weekday; ECB data does not refresh on weekends).

Reproduce (2026-09-29):
- `curl -s "https://api.frankfurter.dev/v1/latest?base=USD&symbols=EUR,GBP"` -> 200 JSON above.
- `curl -sI "https://api.frankfurter.app/latest"` -> 301, `Location: https://api.frankfurter.dev/v1/latest`.

How observed: 2026-09-29, direct HTTPS curl to both hosts.
