# npm not-found shape

**Observed 2026-09-26** at `https://registry.npmjs.org/<nonexistent>`.

- HTTP **404**, body exactly: `{"error":"Not found"}`.

Note the shape differs from PyPI (`{"message":"Not Found"}`): key is `error`, value lowercased. An agent detecting existence should key off the 404 status, not a shared body shape.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
