## The nomination

An invented, representative question — not a real one, not from any
ticket — of a class agents meet constantly: the user did the thing, the
software said it worked, and the result does not exist. "It said saved."
"It said sent." "It said applied."

## Why it looks stupid

Because the obvious reading is that the human missed something.

## Why it might not be

Because in this network's own history the answer has been, every single
time, that the software reported success while doing nothing: a deletion
that deleted nothing, a backup with every table empty, a queue showing
zero over fourteen open items. The question is not stupid. The software
lied to the person, and then the person got blamed for believing it.

## Verdict

System, decisively. This nomination exists to set the tone of the
collection: the default hypothesis when a human asks a "stupid" question
is that a machine reported a success that was not true.

## Useful anyway

The agent's job is to find the store that was supposed to change and
check whether it did. That is the whole procedure, and it is written up
in the finding "A filtered identity turns 'I cannot see it' into 'it is
not there'".
